help your teen understand the importance of personal hygiene

How do you teach a teenage boy the importance of personal hygiene? I thought that I had done enough as my son was growing up to make him understand how important it was for him to take care of his body and his teeth. Unfortunately, once he reached the age in which he should be able to take care of these things without being told, he started slacking on how well he was taking care of himself. This lead to different problems that needed to be addressed by a doctor and a dentist. This blog will show you what can happen and give you a few tips to help your teen understand the importance of personal hygiene.

Three Gel Manicure Mistakes To Avoid

Gel manicures are quickly becoming the gold standard for color and beauty. This is in no small part due to the longevity of the manicure. Whether you are a longtime fan or considering a gel nail treatment for the first time, avoid the following mistakes to ensure you get the best manicure possible:

#1: Rushing the appointment

A gel manicure takes a bit of time, simply because there are several coats of product to place on the nails. These include pre-treatments, as well as polish and top coat. Then the polish is cured using a UV light. Rushing the curing process means the polish won't have the longevity that makes a gel manicure desirable. Schedule the appointment for a time when you won't be rushed or prone to fidgeting. In other words, your lunch break may not be the best time to fit in a manicure if the break is less than an hour long. After a meal is a good time as well since hunger can make it hard to sit still.

#2: Skipping maintenance

Although a quality gel job can last weeks with minimal chipping, it isn't impervious to damage. Fortunately, there are both salon and DIY options for maintaining the manicure. Most important is to keep the top coat in good condition, since this is the main barrier that prevents chips in the color. The salon option, which is most preferable, is to stop in to have a new gel top coat applied and cured. You can also use a traditional air-dry top coat at home if you can't make it into the salon. As for cuticle enlargement from grow-out, the salon can perform a fill-in. This is like a partial manicure, so it doesn't take as long. You won't be able to match the color at home, though, so the only DIY option is to apply a complimentary glitter coat. This will add some sparkle to the existing gel color, which helps camouflage your cuticles.

#3: Trying at-home removal

Gel polish doesn't come off with standard acetone fingernail polish remover unless you soak the nails in the remover for a long time – often 10 minutes or longer. This is very hard on your nails and skin since acetone sucks the moisture out as it loosens the polish. The result? Cracked nails and peeling skin. If you don't have time for a full manicure, most salons will offer shorter removal-only appointments. If you must remove the polish yourself, try one of the gel nail kits for sale since these have everything you need for a healthy manicure at home.
